I’m sure most of you aren’t wondering what happened to my thumb. If you recall from the last entry, I was viciously set upon by a tag team of hubris and a giant wave, whose combined forces pummeled me into the sand. Well, as it turns out, things are more serious than I thought. Here are a couple of quotes; the first is from an email my doctor sent to me, and the second is from Wikipedia.
Doctor: “The radiologist thought there was a fracture in the middle phalanx (one of the areas [of the thumb] I pointed out to you)....For now, keep the splint on."
Wikipedia: “The thumb has no middle phalanx.”
So, not only do I have to suffer the embarrassment of boogie-board ineptitude, but now I’ve broken a bone that doesn’t even exist! And as if that isn’t bad enough, I need figure out how to wear splint over this invisible area. Frankly, I’m at a total loss. I can’t even talk about it.

Lee, (this comment isn't going to be related to your most recent post at all - though I thought it was interesting)
A million bizillion years ago you said something that has stuck with me. You said:
"Everything in moderation, even moderation".
Then, today this quote arrived at my inbox (via wikipedia - which I suppose could be considered a relation to your most recent post. damnit).
Moderation, the Golden Mean, the Aristonmetron, is the secret of wisdom and of happiness. But it does not mean embracing an unadventurous mediocrity: rather it is an elaborate balancing-act, a feat of intellectual skill demanding constant vigilance. Its aim is a reconciliation of opposites. -- Robertson Davies
You are so much more eloquent and concise than Robertson Davies. And so, I thought of you this morning.
